Hertz Rental Car Local Edition | Orem, UT (801) 434-4520

656 S. STATE STREET Orem, UT 84058
A good variety of cars available. Schedule in advance to ensure that you get what you want. Being a Hertz Gold member (usually through your business or corporation) greatly reduces the cost of rental. The cars are kept in good condition, and are well-maintained. The workers are conscientious and honest, and it's apparent they work hard to maintain the automobiles in the finest condition.

Saigon Cafe | Provo, UT (801) 812-1173

440 W 300 S Provo, UT 84601
This restaurant is usually fairly quiet and empty, unless you hit it during the lunch hour peak. However, the lunch special prices are quite a bargain. The prices remain very low, though, even through the evening. The food quality is sub-par, but generally prepared very quickly, and is worth the money paid. The service is fine, and the atmosphere is that of a small, family-run restaurant. Location isn't the best, depending on where you're at, and I'd say it's not worth going out of your way to get to. But, if you're driving by in the neighborhood, and you have a hankering for chinese or vietnamese cuisine, give it a shot.

Honks Dollar Store | Provo, UT (801) 377-2487

650 South Freedom Boulevard Provo, UT 84601
They've upped this store to a $1.05 store, which is lame and dumb. You'll actually be surprised at what a difference that five cents makes when purchasing a large amount of fairly useless odds and ends that you never would have thought of buying before entering the store. If you want to save your money, do not enter this store. You won't regret it, as you'll never realize what you're missing. Nothing in this store is a necessity, and everything is low-quality. If you want to have some fun perusing (perhaps while you're waiting for your food to be cooked at Sam Hawk's), then this is a fine store for taking up your time. You'll surely come out with a number of surprises that you'll wonder why you bought the next day.

Sam Hawk Korean Restaurant | Provo, UT (801) 377-7766

660 N Freedom Blvd Provo, UT 84601
The restaurant is very much authentic Korean fare, although you wouldn't know it from the exterior. It shares it's building with many other businesses and restaurants in a sort of mini-mall setting, dominated by Honk's $1.05 store. The food is the number one feature of this restaurant, as it is very tasty, and well-prepared. The shiny, silver chopsticks are a joy to eat with, and the side dishes that come with the main meal are an added surprise that you don't see in their entirety when you order to go. The service tends to be very slow, so you must be patient. Usually there's a thirty to forty-five minute wait for take out orders, so call ahead to order before you arrive. If eating in, you are able to admire the many photographs of children and previous customers lining the walls. This adds a very endearing quality to the restaurant that makes you feel more and more at home as you return there more and more often. Many of the items may seem unfamiliar and foreign to you (because they are!), so, I suggest you start with the chicken or pork bulgoki and go from there.

Borders Books Music & Cafe - Washington Dc- Main | Washington, DC (202) 466-4999

1800 L Street Northwest Washington, DC 20001
This is a very large Border's with just about any item that you may be looking for. However, Border's problem lies in the fact that the items are usually placed at market price, which tends to be much higher than what is found in other stores that frequently offer sales and rebates. The salespersons are less than helpful at this location, and tend to be busy helping others, due to the needs of a large contingency of perusers. If you're looking for an older item, you'd be better to check the internet; but, if you want the book that has just been released onto the best seller list, you can easily walk into this store, pick it up off the first table, usually for 20% off, and have it in your hands and ready to go in no time at all. Be careful bringing in outside material into this store--their alarm detector is very sensitive, it seems.

Gandolfos New York Deli | Provo, UT (801) 375-3354

18 North University Avenue Provo, UT 84601
Although the prices tend to be higher than those found at similar sandwich cafes and restaurants, the quality of the offerings are quite a bit higher as well. The sandwiches offered are each given interesting names, many of which fit perfectly with the New York theme of the store. The sauces used on the sandwiches are what make them come alive, and the bread is usually of a very high quality, making the sandwich a joy to partake of. It's a much more enjoyable atmosphere to eat in comparison to a Subway or Quiznos.

Pudding on the Rice | Provo, UT (801) 375-5007

2293 North University Parkway Provo, UT 84604
You think you've had rice pudding before? Well, you probably have, but be prepared to be amazed by the vast world of rice pudding that is about to open up before your very eyes at this stylishly-crafted pudding bar. The workers allow you to test any and all of the pudding selections (and there are many) prior to purchasing. The small spoons they use for such tastings are fun to collect and keep at your home for future remembrances of your experience at the restaurant. This is the perfect place to go with a date after eating out. It is a good end to a nice night, allowing you to share a helping with your special loved one; but, the pudding will taste just as fine when enjoyed alone, I'm sure. The only downside is that the serving size tends to be too large to complete it all in one sitting. Luckily, rice pudding actually saves pretty well in the fridge, working well as a midnight snack, which you will soon find to crave quite often.

Utrecht Art Supplies | Washington, DC (202) 898-0555

1250 I Street Northwest Washington, DC 20005
This art store contains all of the supplies a beginning or intermediate painter would ever need. The prices can't be beat, as they often have very good sales that include low-priced practice canvases, as well as paintbrushes and oil/acrylic paints. Every shopper is allowed membership into the Utrecht Art Supplies frequent purchaser club, which includes a card that gives you an additional 10% discount on all items. Other free odds and ends are often handed out at the register, such as erasers and pencils. In addition to paint supplies, the store contains woodwork supplies, watercolors, and other practice items. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, allowing the shopper to roam and peruse the items at his/her leisure. Other shoppers are friendly, and the salespersons are helpful. The location allows one to easily purchase their supplies en route to or from the office, as it is situated in the center of a large business district at I Street.

Alpine Animal Hospital | Provo, UT (801) 374-0622

1615 South State Street Provo, UT 84606
As far as veterinary medicine is concerned, I'm no expert. And, this is the only one I've ever been to, so my view of animal hospitals may be skewed. The hospital is usually quite crowded, as it is rather small. The waiting room is bleak and dreary, with plain white walls and a few magazines. There is nothing done to try and cover the smell of animals; the place looks as though it is often filled with, well, sick animals. But, the animals are usually taken care of properly and correctly. However, I have had a couple of bad experiences in which the animal which was brought in was not saved, probably not by the fault of the physician. It's a good location on a busy street--easy to obtain access to. Try to avoid it if possible, though, because it's never fun to have a sick animal on your hands.

Modern Shoe Repair | Provo, UT (801) 375-2711

350 West Center Street Provo, UT 84601
The name is deceiving, for in this store you find not just shoe repair services and supplies, but also a wide selection of new shoes. Here are all the latest brands and styles, as well as most of the old standards. Since my first visit to this store five years ago, I have gone nowhere else for the purpose of purchasing dress and business shoes. In addition to the high quality selection offered, the salespersons are kind and polite, and helpful in finding the proper footwear for your specific purposes. Specific shoes will be ordered in at no extra cost if it is found that they do not offer that style or size. The manager is very nice, and adheres to the old-fashioned asthetic of being kind to his customers, and carrying on personal interest in your life. While the prices are a little more than what would be seen at a large-scale shoe store, the owner more than makes up for it by offering fine deals on his repair work. His high-quality precision work allows the shoes to gain an added six months to a year, and more than make up for the price of the shoes.

Travelodge Provo | Provo, UT (801) 373-1974

124 South University Avenue Provo, UT 84601
Located near the very heart of historic downtown Provo, this is a more inexpensive alternative to the Marriott. Amenities include an outdoor pool, HBO, and very clean rooms. The manager is very friendly and nice, and keeps the place in good repair. It may not be high class, but it's a great place to stay for a few days.
